Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) issued the following statement today condemning the murder of an Arab teenager in eastern Jerusalem:
"The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the abduction and killing of Mohammad Abu Khdeir, an Arab teenager in eastern Jerusalem. We implore both Israelis and Palestinians to resist the temptation to take justice into their own hands.
"I echo the comments of Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who called this murder 'a horrible and barbaric act.' Mayor Barkat added, 'This is not our way and I am fully confident that our security forces will bring the perpetrators to justice. I call on everyone to exercise restraint.'
"We join Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in urging police 'to swiftly investigate who was behind the loathsome murder and its motive.'"
The JCRC… the public affairs voice of the Jewish community fighting anti-Semitism and prejudice, promoting tolerance and social justice, and representing Jews, individually and collectively.
