Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) issued the following statement today in response to the arrests in connection with the killing of Arab teen Mohammad Abu Khdeir:
"The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the abduction and killing of Mohammad Abu Khdeir, an Arab teenager in eastern Jerusalem. We are saddened and outraged that the investigation by Israeli police has determined that the perpetrators of this murder are Jewish terrorists. There is no justification for this abhorrent attack and we urge Israeli authorities to investigate how this murder might relate to a broader context of violent extremism. We condemn this murder as we did the murder of the three Israeli teenagers by Arab terrorists last week and we extend our condolences to the Khdeir family.
"The safety of children is a paramount concern and we are devastated that once again they have become victims.
"We commend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government for their calls for an immediate and thorough investigation and apprehension that led to these arrests. We stand with Israel in the demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice as soon as possible.
"We implore both Israelis and Palestinians to resist the temptation to take justice into their own hands. There was much suffering last week and we pray that it will come to a quick end."
The JCRC… the public affairs voice of the Jewish community fighting anti-Semitism and prejudice, promoting tolerance and social justice, and representing Jews, individually and collectively.
