Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) issued the following statement today in response to the movement of IDF ground forces into the Gaza Strip:
"Today, following ten days of Hamas attacks by land, air, and sea, and after their repeated rejections of an Egyptian brokered, Arab League endorsed ceasefire, Israel extended its defensive measures into Gaza with ground forces. In the last week and a half, Hamas has fired over 1,500 rockets at Israel from Gaza with targets ranging from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to northern and southern Israeli cities.
"In the past twenty-four hours:
"Through today’s action, Israel seeks to end the ongoing terror attacks launched from a series of Hamas tunnels. Israel need not wait until Hamas commandos murder innocent civilians before taking action to destroy these tunnels."
The JCRC… the public affairs voice of the Jewish community fighting anti-Semitism and prejudice, promoting tolerance and social justice, and representing Jews, individually and collectively.
