Minnesota Rabbinical Association, Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul, Minneapolis Jewish Federation, and Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas Affirm Our Solidarity with Local Muslim Community in Wake of Blast at the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center

August 7, 2017

Minneapolis, MN – Leadership at the Minnesota Rabbinical Association, Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul, Minneapolis Jewish Federation, and Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas issued the following statement:

“The Minnesota Rabbinical Association, Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul, Minneapolis Jewish Federation, and Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas affirm our solidarity with the local Muslim community in the wake of this weekend’s blast at the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, MN. We are grateful that no one was physically injured.

“We encourage people to attend the community solidarity event at Dar Al Farooq on Tuesday, August 8, starting at 6:00 p.m. More details can be found at this Facebook event page. Rabbi Alexander Davis and Rabbi Marcia Zimmerman will speak on behalf of the Minnesota Rabbinical Association.

“According to FBI Minneapolis Special Agent in Charge Richard Thornton, an ‘improvised explosive device’ was used in the explosion. This type of terrorism will not be tolerated in our community.

“The Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center has established a GoFundMe page to help rebuild the center. Donations can be made at: https://www.gofundme.com/support-dar-al-farooq-center.

“Perpetrators of these hate crimes are intent on spreading a message of intolerance and challenging the openness and diversity of our community. Collectively, we reject these chilling acts and the evil they represent.

“Earlier this year, the Muslim community placed an ad in the Star Tribune affirming solidarity with the Jewish community after the JCC bomb threats. Today, the Jewish community affirms its solidarity with the school, mosque, and local Muslim community. This weekend’s incident underscores the importance of The Minneapolis Foundation’s creation of the Faith In Each Other Fund. The charitable fund established in March will help support security initiatives of both the Muslim and Jewish communities. We thank The Minneapolis Foundation for this critical support.

“We urge anyone with information about the blast to come forward and report it to law enforcement. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI. We will continue to monitor the situation.

“Finally, we thank local, state, and federal law enforcement for their swift response to this incident.”
