Featuring Dr. Jonathan Krasner and welcoming Rabbi Jill Avrin

On October 12, 2025  JCRC held its Annual Meeting featuring Professor Dr. Jonathan Krasner, welcoming Rabbi Jill Avrin and thanking board members and staff.

The keynote conversation explored what is happening to Jewish college students on campus.

In his research “Between Home and Homeland: Jewish College Students Confront the Israel-Gaza Conflict and Campus Divides,” Dr. Jonathan Krasner sorts Jewish students into 6 categories post-October 7th.

Rabbi Avrin, whom we welcomed as JCRC’s inaugural Director of Campus Affairs, sat down with Dr. Krasner at our Annual Meeting to reflect on the research and how it has informed the way she approaches the work: the experience of Jewish students is diverse and requires campus leaders to meet students where they are.

JCRC’s schedule of events for this scholar-in-residence also included a campus leadership breakfast attended by University of Minnesota, Mitchell-Hamlin Law School, Macalester College, University of St. Thomas, Carleton College, St. Olaf College, Normandale Community College and more; an overview and Q&A with the Smith Jewish Academy community about how the experience of attending day school impacts the college experience for Jewish students; and a lunch meeting and discussion between Krasner and Jewish college students on what steps might be taken to improve the campus climate.
