We are honored to welcome the acclaimed educator and author, Alexandra Zapruder, who will travel with us as we follow in the footsteps of several young diarists featured in her research and book, Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust
Power of Place is an immersive professional development opportunity for teachers where learning unfolds as we tour authentic historical sites across Europe in order to transform our understanding of the Holocaust, WWII, antisemitism, and Jewish life today. Power of Place is planned and co-led by Humanus Network on behalf of JCRC and generously supported by the Minnesota Vikings, the Tankenoff Families Foundation, and Allianz of America Corporation.

Susie Greenberg
Director of Holocaust Education and Programming, Jewish Community Relations Council of MN and the Dakotas (JCRC)
Susie Greenberg, Director of Holocaust Education, has spent the last 17 years working at the JCRC, devoting much of her time planning, facilitating, and implementing programming around Holocaust education and remembrance. Susie focuses on the Twin Cities community and beyond via an active speakers’ bureau, community trainings, charter trips to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration (Holocaust Remembrance Day), and more. Additionally, she co-curated Transfer of Memory, a traveling photography exhibit about Minnesota Holocaust survivors, and coordinated and supervised the exhibition, Kindertransport – Rescuing Children on the Brink of War in Minneapolis and curated the accompanying local component, The Story is Here. Susie has been awarded the Leon and Sylvia Sorkin Jewish Communal Professional Achievement Award and Normandale Community College Presidents’ Community Partner Award.
Kristin Thompson
Founding Director, Humanus Network, Holocaust and Human Rights Education Consulting
Kristin is contracted by JCRC to plan the trip itinerary and co-lead the experience in Europe. As an historian, international speaker, and curriculum specialist, she is committed to advancing Holocaust and human rights education. With over three decades of deep expertise, including work at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum (training teachers), and as a history teacher and founder of Humanus Network, she helps educators gain confidence and navigate the complexities of teaching difficult history, equipping them to confront today’s contemporary challenges. Her professional network includes longstanding relationships with some of the field’s most trusted voices and thought leaders.
Alexandra Zapruder
Author and Educator
Alexandra Zapruder began her career at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, where she served on the curatorial team for Remember the Children, Daniel’s Story. She is best known for her award-winning book Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust, which was adapted into the Emmy-nominated MTV documentary I’m Still Here and later expanded into multimedia and educational editions. She also wrote Twenty-Six Seconds: A Personal History of the Zapruder Film about her grandfather’s home movie of JFK’s assassination. Alexandra serves as Education Director of The Defiant Requiem Foundation, sits on the board of the Educators’ Institute for Human Rights, and has been published in The New York Times, Smithsonian, Parade, and LitHub.
