What We Do

The Letters Project was created in 2020 and is based upon Yossi Klein Halevi’s Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor (Harper Collins, 2019).

Post Oct 7th we believe that The Letters Project is both critically important and significantly more challenging for us to carry out. This project is about gaining understanding and language to fully express ourselves in a nuanced conversation on the Israeli-Palestinian issue. As well, the book can help young Jews more deeply understand and connect with the Zionist story, which is especially urgent now. It is with full awareness of the pain and limitations of this moment that we offer this project to current and new partners, in our community and beyond.

Our intentions are:

STANDING proudly, without apology, in our Zionist story

LEARNING to live with the reality that we have two irreconcilable narratives

ACQUAINTING ourselves with a range of views and concepts that comprise the Palestinian narrative, understanding that learning is not agreement

RESPECTING the role that history plays in how we understand the present and think about the future
